Singaporeans: Live Life And Pay And Shut Up

In Singapore Politics & Economy

What do you do if you are in this situation:

You are doing and living your rights, as they are written down in the lawbook of your country, you are not violating these laws nor are you doing anything harming your countries constitutions…

Then there are the authorieties, they have the official right to imprison you in case of certain violations to this constituton, and you respect that. But suddenly this authority uses their power, actually breaking the law in arresting you, without the given reason to do so, just because they want to, they think they might have the right just BECAUSE they are the authotities…

What do you do?

I remember myself thinking about this situation quite often, i have never experienced it, but what if? I dont know!

(PICTURES HERE) So today i was reading SgPolitics most recent blog entry about a peaceful demonstration about the price hikes and rising living costs in Singapore. And it came to the exact situation described above. It changes my mind of the police in Singapore, which to be honest hasnt been too good already, especially after the two most recent incidents involving Mas Selamat and the Shooting at Outram Park. Now they added another embarassing chapter to their more then doubtful work.

Please read more and a detailed article about the happenings directly by one of the protesters on sgpolitics(PART1). (PART2)

Two things:

One- If I were one of the police officers, I’d throw in my badge and bid them adieu. Perhaps it is so much honorable to have a lowly security guard job than a cop that doesn’t think and follow orders blindly.

These people have rights and their rights are carved in stoned by the Constitution. It is true that these police officers are indeed breaking the law by manhandling these harmless protestors.

Two- If I were a reporter, I would give a true account of the incident, not lies which contort the truth. If I cannot get my report approved, then I will throw in the towel and work for a freer press.

It is quite childishly simple actually. We have the high moral ground. Not the authorities.

The problem is that those in power including our dear LKY thinks that we Singaporeans have given them the absolute right to govern us in any way they deem fit.

Also, our Gahmen thinks that we Singaporeans owe them the right to continue to live in this country otherwise they will make the hell out of our living in Singapore.

In reality there is no real democracy in Singapore. It’s all a facade to fool the rest of the world.

That’s the legacy of our pretentious LKY.

Then we can also have the right to take back the power we gave them to govern, so we singaporeans must be united to deny them the power in the ballot box.The more power you give them, the more they are arrogant. Especially Lee Kuan Yew, his face nowadays look like Samy Vellu or Dr Lim Chong Eu, if you don’t know who is Dr Lim, then go ask the person who eats char koay teow only 3 times in a year!

as long as the ISA act is in place, even students (if i am not worng, more than 4 persons) gather, the government can hold them in custody.

Theoretically, they could detain people under the ISA. But that would be bigger PR disaster which the PAP tries its very best to avoid.

You might ask why they have decided to arrest us instead this time. I personally think that they could not afford to let us proceed because our theme resonated with every Singaporean and the placards we carried brought the message across bluntly. They simply feared that a crowd will continue to build up along the way. Heavy handedness is a sign of weakness, not confidence.

Even if we do not get a massive following on the ground, we would set a precedent anyhow if the police gave the go-ahead, and signal to Singaporeans that demonstrations will be tolerated, emboldening others to do the same to voice their grievances. We would also effectively destroy their weakening rhetoric that demonstrations lead to chaos by providing a live, working example.

Given the sheer number of people who oppose the government, they would end up in a far worse position if everyone decides to stage their own following this.

And all this in the face of Wong Kan Seng’s (?) recent suggestion that demonstrations be allowed in Speakers’ Corner.

You have to remember that the government consistently and unconstitutionally amends laws in order to snuff out every possible beginning to a movement against their state control by introducing seemingly innocuous laws or regulations – no banners, no placards, no songs, no use of audio amplification devices, no raising of fists in the air even in the remotest of areas like Speaker’s Corner.

Ti Lik and Dr Chee was relating to us how the police kept on messaging them during election rallies last year to disperse crowds instead of getting their own hands dirty.

They know that they cannot stop Singaporeans once the mass builds up. It is easier to frighten everyone by slaughtering one because it needs less manpower and it’s easier to cover up with state-controlled media. Therefore, if you become afraid because of our fate, they have won the game. But I assume you guys are not since I see everyone using real names!

To others reading this, don’t be afraid. I am not. If you’re not ready to join us in such marches, cheer us on by the side if you support us. It is not illegal to cheer. Yet.

Nice Post

[...] I know that many countries would be thankful for a “free” dating agency provider trying to bring back the “swing” to their peoples hips, but living here i dont know else then to feel quite very extremely amused about the fact that a government has time and money to invest in their peoples own “entertaining” life by giving tips of “How to have Sex in a car” including the 10 best , non lightened, remote and romantic spots to drive to”…then to care about the real issues ones country experiences at the moment.
