10 Best Things To Do When Being Sick In Singapore

Helpful Tips Or Questions 2 Comments

Having a cold or fever at a place where the outer temperature still almost exceeds your body temperature, is honesty not a nice thing. Unfortunately Singapore has still some adjustment issues with their general AirCon systems which means, there is no get-a-way from catching the flue, one cold cinema, one cold train, one cold hawker centre, at one point it will get you, and then you better be prepared (Read: Guide Being Sick In Singapore

  • NO AIRCON
Number one, and really number one rule…dont turn on the AirCon when trying to get healthy at home lying in your bed. Its like sending a 3rd degree burn victim to the sauna. Just dont do it and rather take a short walk outside once a day and flood your flat with fresh air during that time
  • Panadol
Keep a stach of Panadol “Cold & Flue” pills at home, 3 times a day two pills should get you over the worst soon. You get Panadol at every Coldstorage, Watsons, NTUC, literally everywhere, and its prescription free
  • Vitamin C
Fresh Lemons or Panadol “Cold and Flue Hot Remedy” (which is concentrated Vitamine C powder). Have a hot hot cup of water with fresh squeezed lemon juice or Panadol powder three times a day to keep your vitamine level up
  • Sweat!
Yes, its ugly and it stinks, but it helps, besides, you are doing it in Singapore every day anyway, so put on your socks and warm clothes and spend a hot day in bed
  • Stay Home
Dont go to work. It might feel weird not to turn up at your working place because of a flue, but your workingplace will most likely be an airconditioned place which will only worsen your infection. Furthermore, those dead bringing Aircon machines will spread your virus in minutes deserting your companies desks for the upcoming weeks, you dont want to do that
  • Te Halia
If you get stomache cramps or you have diggestion problems, Hot Te Halia without sugar is a secret advice. You should get it at every regular indian or malay street stall, and it helps a lot.
  • Hot Chicken Porrage
We are in Asia, so why not use their traditional methods, Hot chicken porrage, looks not very dilicious, but actually its tasty and its supposed to help a lot when having fever. Get it at your next chinese street stall, just next to the chicken rice and fried dumplings
  • Three Legged Water
Drink a lot, yes, i guess its the same all over the world, drink a lot, 2 litres a day is not enough, but to spice things up a bit, in Singapore we throw in the “Three Legged Water”. Its little 0.25l plastic bottles you should get at every 7-11, and they are supposed to cool down your body temperature. I dont know if its just a myth or if not every water would have that effect, but you know, its all about believeing
  • No Coffee or Cigarettes
Try to stay away from your daily sins like coffee, cigarettes etc, instead use your sickness to clean your body a little bit. Your health system will say thank you
  • Ginseng Tea
Last but not least…Ginseng tea, yeah, again, we are in Asia as a matter of fact, so why not stick to what has helped people here of decades. Ginseng tea instead of your usual peppermint of black one
