Newton Circus Prawn Hawker Suspended

Following this weeks Hot discussed and high up story about the American Tourists who got cheated and nearly billed 500 $ for a dinner at the Newton Circus Food Center, finally the Hawker Stall got suspended and the people involved in the incident charged.

To be honest I never considered Newton Circus as such a shady place. It might be more expensive and you will have difficulties finding tables between all the tourists walking confused over the place, but I never got overcharged or cheated.

I don’t even know why people go to Newton. It sucks and has sucked for years!

Newton circus is full of stands ripping off tourists. $50 for fried rice and 2 prawns! The people are rude and the food terrible. The whole shambles should be shut down.

Newton was the first hawker centre i went to when i came here and what a mistake that was. I was disgusted and left the people there just want to rip you off. I agree that place should be shut down.

After a (only) month in Singapore I have been at Newton several times (live close by) and I have never been overcharged or tried to be cheated in anyway.
Maybe after that incident with the Americans the stalls owners at Newton agreed to behave? Anyway so far so good at Newton for me ..although there are better hawker centers around.

The mix of tenants at Newton Circus is need to be revised ! Its OVERDUE and about time .
Almost all stalls sell seafood and the place does not represent Singapore local food entirely.
Newton Circus should be renamed Jumbo Seafood on the cheap ( or cut throat price!)
On the taste scale , the place is rated 4/10
cause you not eating well prepared and delicious
local food – its very run of the mill .
