Singapore is the most liveable place in South-east Asia, according to survey of 140 countries. It also ranked number 54, above New York in 56th place, as the world’s easiest city to live in.

The world’s most expensive casino, the Marina Bay Sands, is set to open later this year in Singapore. Ten thousand people, including many foreign Chinese workers, have been working around the clock to complete the project. But now some of them are on strike over a dispute about pay and working conditions.

Having great local friends, open minded and as interested in my culture as I am in theirs, gives me the opportunity to discuss topics far more sensitive then just the usual and stereotypical “Why Do You Queue 1 hour for a free pack of tissues”. Its the real cultural differences that are worth talking about.
