When was the last time you complained about Singapore? Yes, Singapore is said to be a “Western influenced” city but in the end, it is a place in South East Asia and you will find many unusual things here, that do not fit in your healthy picture of how some things should be.

Especially if you decide to live here, the “culture shock” may come over you very quick, although many don’t really realize they have it.

It’s hot these days, I don’t have to tell you. Look out of the window and you will see an ocean of umbrellas walking around while the ice supply reaches dangerous shortages. My A/C runs 24/7 and I refuse to wear ties these days.

Last Sunday I went for a run with a local friend, which left me sunburned, dehydrated and not able to speak for 10 minutes.

In an attempt to setup some rules for the correct “use” of our Singaporean sidewalks, I stirred up some discussions about the general problem and presence of “Kiasuism” everywhere once again!

Today, I first missed my train, and then missed a meeting because those bloody people can’t read the obvious signs about how to “behave” on Singapore’s escalators!

If you have a travel passport from a country that is on this list (Who Needs A Visa To Visit Singapore), you will have to apply for a Visitors visa to get entry into Singapore.

Four pairs of widely opened, surprised eyes stare at me this early hot evening somewhere about 3 years ago. After stumbling through the expat and foreign student contaminated scene around the typical clubs and bars, I finally made contact with my (till today) best local friends and the cultural exchange could finally begin.
And obviously I had to catch up quickly with the typical local food habits.
