I don't know what's more repulsive: Kiasu Singaporeans or Singaporeans who claimed to have lived in UK and US turning their back on his own countryman and nitpicking. I mean, one is just annoying while the other is just deplorable.

For your info, I live in Australia now and all I see are crimes by local teens, biker gang wars, alcohol fueled glassings at pubs, druggies smoking marijuana openly at King's Cross, Sydney. If kiasu-ism is the worst Singaporeans can come up with, I gladly take it.

Makes me wonder what you guys were doing in the US and UK. Oh wait, you locked yourself up in an apartment... that explains it.

Boo to you guys:) For a Singaporean like myself who had work and stay oversea (Angmo country) for a few years i dare to differ on your views on 'Ang Mo still get special treatments here'. Usually you get these kind of treatment from local foreigner and not Singaporean i guess. People from Philippines, India, Thailand, Vietnam usually treat you guys (angmo) like God because they are suffering from the 'White man Superiority Syndrome'. Singaporean basically don't give a shit to the colors of your skin (in this case Red). But still, i get the thrill everytime i was being serve by a white in dinners and see a whiteman clearing my thrash bin outside my home oversea. That to me is 'Priceless' and i enjoy the scene in full technicolor sipping my beer by my porch.
My Girlfriend (from Malaysia) once ask me after a movie. "Dear, what is a 'fucking redneck'?"

"Well,... it's Angmo. as 'Ang' means 'Red' and 'Mo' means 'Hair' in hokkien."

"But dear that still don't explain what is 'Redneck'?"

"hmm... Well that basically means poor white trash working under the hot sun all their life and get that permanent reck skin on their neck. Got it? and oh the 'fucking' infront of it just means they are usually the cause of all pain... socially"

Oh my God..... who wants a beer?

jonathan, the prob is s'pore is full of foreigners with equally bad public manners, adding to our alrdy not-gracious s'pore. thus, it is tough to educate every1 at the same rate. Lol. i agree that s'pore is not moving forward in terms of public etiquette. absolutely despise the kiasu-ism here, even more when seeing the younger generation rushing into the train to get seats like they're dying of exhaustion. sad aint it?
yea, also despise those restaurants which dare claim tt they're authentic even though they're obviously not.

Hello

I have lived in England for over 8 years and worked in the US for over 5 years. Although I grew up in Singapore, I always have a culture shock when I return to Singapore. It has been going backwards in terms of people's behaviour, language, and environment.

The way I survive in Singapore is to lock myself out of the norm. I don't take bus or the MRT unless I am all out for an amusement. My apartment is totally sound proof and fortunately I have fairly good neighbours. I avoid all places that I would expect idiots would visit; never mind the prices. There are sadly not many good restaurants in Singapore these days (usually you would find a Chinese cook in the restaurant, who perhaps just arrived from Red China and do not know what he/she is doing).

The problem with Singapore, is it is full of Singaporeans. There are strange people everywhere, but I find many Singaporeans, especially the youth these days, the most dangerous or unpleasant to be with.

If you are an Asian in outlook, you will encounter more nasty experiences. Count yourself lucky as usually Ang Mo still get special treatments, at least for the better ones, here in SillyBore.
