If you are a seasoned Steak eater in Hong Kong, you surely were familiar with the meat galore of (now closed) Steak House Carnevino in Central. Last month Gaucho opened and took over their previous spot, and lord of juicy steaks are we happy they did. Gaucho had their first Steak restaurant opened recently in London, which got praised and great reviews from the local foodies. Now we have the pleasure of them giving us some of their meat magic here in Hong Kong too.
The setting and design of Gaucho is clearly more upbeat and fresh than the rather traditional Carnevino was. There’s an overall good vibe and last but not least, the beautiful cow leather chairs.
Impeccable! We had our assigned Maitre d’hor, who was not only extremely nice and chatty, but also recommended us other new great places to try in Hong Kong and most importantly, she never let us run out of that freaking delicious cheese bread and butter!
This is exactly the level of service that makes your already great dinner, an awesome dinner! Would love to see such dedication more in Hong Kong!
We were hungry last night, so we ordered a lot, maybe a tiny little bit too much because I kind of was full before the steaks had yet to show up. However, the starters we choose were worth it and made for a first great part of the dinner.
Ceviche Sampler Plate – 268 HK$

A little bowl of extremely delicious hot melted cheese, served with dipping bread.

When you are ready to order your mains, the first highlight of the night will be the platter of meat that is brought to your table and presented for you to choose right in front of you. While presenting the perfectly cut pieces of beef, you will get a detailed explanation on the differing flavors, cooking recommendations and sizes.
We ordered the following steaks based on our Maitre D’hors recommendation and our own preferences:
Lomo Medaillons – 298 HK$
225 Gramm of lean delicious beef. If you like your meat non-fatty and with a clean cut, then this is your choice!
Gaucho Tasting Plate – 448 HK$
A taste of three of our most popular cuts – chorizo, ancho and cuadril (450 Gramm). This was my favorite because you got to try three of their signature cuts, and each portions was just satisfying enough. If you can’t decide, go for this option!
Churrasco De Lomo – 498 HK$
Spiral cut, marinated for 48 hours in garlic, parsley and olive oil 400g
Rack of Lamb – 378 HK$
Jerusalem artichoke purée and toasted almonds
Sides, Sweet Potato Puree, Chips and Spinach for 68 HK$ each
Salted Dulce de Leche and Hazelnut Cheesecake – 68 HKD
Coconut Italian meringue,salted dulce de leche, milk chocolate Ganache and marbled chocolate shard
Dulce de Leche Fondant – 68 HKD
Amaretto curd, chocolate crumble, vanilla ice cream and fresh fruits
Overall the bill came to around 700 HKD per person without wine (which we had too and it made a lovely pairing to the steaks). I feel that it was worth it, and while the steaks were great, the starters and dessert were outstanding! Recommended!
