I will never forgot those easy days long ago and far away. When I didn’t have to worry about which suit to wear in the morning, which Meeting to go to first or which Bill to pay last. My hands were small and I could barely hold my GameBoy with 2 hands. I didn’t know that Singapre existed or what Durians were, and all I cared about was my Tree House and reaching the next Level in my fresh Prince of Persia game. Today some 20 years later I walk out of the cinema, my childhood friend from the little screen finally made it to the big one, and I think “It was a long but worthy journey!”

From 8 Bit to the Cinema Screen – How the Prince Got its Face (and Name)
In the very first game, the one I indulged in while hidden in my Tree House, the Prince was some faceless, (remember, 8 bits only), and nameless character. Trying to save the princess and with her the whole world. It was “just” the Prince of Persia. Today while watching the movie I realized that as much as I create my own characters while reading a good book, I did so with the Prince of Persia heroes and villains while playing the game.
We’ve seen it before, its always a tough task for any movie producer bringing a classic book or game to live on the big screen, not to choose the wrong actors and faces. But today I can tell you with confidence that especially Jake Gyllenhaal as Dastan, the prince of Persia, and Gemma Arterton as Tammina the Princess are top choices, that carry the movie and bring to life what was jumping and fighting on my consoles screens before. Then of course there is Ben Kingsley with a special role that will trick and treat you just as he did many times before.
The Movie’s Story (No Spoilers!)
If you take the same team that created the amazing Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy and pair it with some great actors and Jerry Bruckheimer as the director, the result becomes more then a wild, breathtaking ride, its an experience not to miss. Prince of Persia – The Sands of Time is an epic action-adventure that will entertain your whole family.
The story is set in the mystical lands of Persia, the movie offers fantastic landscape shots and the whole atmosphere of those old mystic days is very well displayed through the whole movie. A rogue prince (JAKE GYLLENHAAL) reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess (GEMMA ARTERTON) and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Timea gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.
A Great Movie for Everyone
The great thing about Prince of Perisa movie is that it satifies the old fashioned gamer, who held the game cassette in his hands some 20 years ago, just as much as the young boy with his parents, just looking forward to a nice and entertaining movie evening.
Many times I turned to my friend while watching the movie, saying, “Hey Dude, that looks like the game”. And whoever has put his hands on one of the many games earlier will recognize the many tributes the director has built into the movie, that’s great for all the fans of the games out there.
For everyone else the movie will be entertaining just as much, you basically get everything, from great animated action scenes (whoa, just wait for the Dagger to show its action) to many funny moments and the romantic ones for our couples, it’s a great movie…
… and if I had that Dagger right now, I would reverse time and watch the movie again!
